Defy Aging Five Ways

We are ALL getting older, every day.  Nothing to stop that for now.

I’ll start with a question:  What do you think of the person who says, “This is the way I have always done it.”  Do you find them interesting, or young and spunky?

I didn’t think so.

So consider THAT as you consider THESE age defying ideas…….

1.  When was the last time you moved a chair….or anything, for that matter….to new places, in your house?  Or, as my mother would say……”Honey, is it time to re-arrange your ‘doo-dads’?

You will energize your whole life when you change colors, or let go of a lot of ‘stuff’ that has been sitting in the same spot for years.  With so many options online and in stores, could this be a time to just change out that comforter and get some new towels or buy some great area rugs in a new color story?  Even updating the way things are framed, can re-charge a space gone stale.

2.  When was the last time you changed your hair or make-up?  Do you need a ‘make-under’ or a ‘make-over’?  It doesn’t have to be something radical……bangs can grow out. They are a lot less expensive than botox too.  Go to the hairdresser of a friend, whose hair you have always liked…..just for a new consult.  You won’t be’ cheating’ on your current hairdresser—-just give yourself food for thought from a fresh, objective point of view.

3.  When was the last time you really took in someone  else’s point of view that differed from yours……without judging them?  Whether you are labeling yourself ‘conservative’, ‘liberal’, or ‘progressive’, those labels can get you into trouble.  You just might be narrowing your world-view.

4.  When was the last time you tried something new that moved you out of your comfort zone(aka…rut)……just to be curious?

Here’s a trick.  Try the “10 minute rule”.  When  my husband and I try something new—-we remind ourselves that “We are BIG people—–“We can do anything we want.”  It’s often the push we need to get off the couch and go to that lecture at the museum.   But we also give each other 10 minute lee-way to whisper—“I call ten minutes.”  Which means…..”I have had enough of this. I’ll give it ten more minutes…then I am outta here.” Then, we can decide if one or both of us is going to leave.  At least we tried.

We don’t have to stay to the bitter end of anything.  But we don’t want to assume WE KNOW what a performance or a person is going to be like, until we have tried it for ourselves.  Sometimes we are pleasantly surprised.  That is thrilling and energizing.  Sometimes the thing we tried is just a bust.  C’est la vie.

5.  When was the last time you went to the TOP of THE CHARTS?

This is really an extension of #4.  Checking on what’s trending, what’s at the top of the music charts in all the genres—-even the ones that aren’t your favs—-is such a great way to stay current.  Same with the #1 best selling books.  It is so easy to check that out with Amazon.  See which books are #1 for fiction, non-fiction and business.  Order them and see what all the fuss is about.  Or don’t order them and at least create a frame of reference to familiarze yourself with the names, places and faces that are making waves in the world.

One thing is guaranteed.  You will love life so much more when you are participating in it.

Thanks for the tips! I think it is really important to know how to defy aging. There are many people who are aware of what they need to look like, but they cannot. Probably the best way to help these people is to consider Antler Velvet from Deer.
